I prefer making mid-size fixed blades in the 4”- 6” range but like to bust out with the big ‘uns now and then. While folders are cool, there’s nothing like being able to conceal and carry a small fixed blade, even a three-finger knife. I like to use 154CM but will also use D2, O1 and even S30V for smaller blades. For larger blades I will use either screws or pins but almost exclusively use pins for thinner stock.

I like thinner, lighter knives. 5/32” is IN up to about 6”, then I reluctantly move up to 3/16” stock. The Ace Of Spades is a personal favorite; 4.5” of blade in a 6 oz. package, including the sheath! I do not taper my tangs, instead opting for lightening holes or pockets if I have blanks waterjet cut. I prefer handrubbed finishes but will do a bead-blasted finish every now and then depending on the intended application.
