My knife fetish started in 2001 when I was doing some research on a couple of knives for a trip to New Mexico. Before I knew it, I was spending most of my time online looking at knife forums and retailers -- and evenutally maker's sites. My first custom venture was sparked by my friendship with Dav Winch. We did some design collabs based on my crude drawings that were massaged by Dav. A lot of my design beliefs have changed since then but some fundamentals were formed in those days with Dav's help and have stayed with me.
All hell broke loose when I came across Larry Davidson at Spirit of Steel '03. I'd never worked with tools of any sort and Lazza walked me through the basics and then some. Our first project together was modding Emerson Commanders with 3D scales. He introduced me to the wacky world of CAD/CAM; cake for a veteran tool and die maker. I'd never seen a fully functional CNC mill before and here's one in this dude's garage. In a matter of months I was making my own fixed blades under his watch. Almost everything I do in the shop -- everything from grinding, cursing and Bob Dylan -- is based on what I've seen at Lazza's. Hell, half the stuff in my shop came from his shop.
There are so many people to thank, starting with the above yahoos. I'll cop out and get bulletpointed on your ass:
And of course, my lovely wife Dyan. Married five years last November, Dyan couldn't care less about knives. That hasn't stopped her from being supportive and patient with my maniacal approach to hobbies, the latest being knifemaking (which, while neither of us wants to admt it, was a huge propellant in buying our first house). Proof that there's truly someone for everyone, I don't know where I'd be without her.

Take a peek into the online psyches of the Chilly Brothers. Larry Davidson, Dav Winch, John Gonzalez, Keith Edick and I embarass ourselves daily on our own USN forum.
Joe Kertzman was kind enough to use my submission for Blade's "My Mentor Knifemaker" feature in the December 2005 issue of Blade Magazine.
A knifemaking tutorial I posted on the USN. Not for the serious knifemaker. :)
